Civil Grumman Duck - 1/72nd Airfix - ready for a splash

 

The Grumman Duck here represents one of the few civil conversions of the type. The build was mainly uneventful, even if this old -but by no means venerable- kit will fight you back with bad fit and a couple of bad engineering solutions. The decals are home-made.Wire handles were added where needed on the fuselage plus a couple of inspection lids on the float, as well as nav lights and landing lights under the wing. All military equipment was of course deleted. The only photos I found of this plane are of it abandoned in Colombia. The remains supposedly were rescued and it seems to be under restoration in the US.

There is not much on the Net regarding photos of civil Ducks, unfortunately just a few photos of about five planes. I wish more material would be posted as the Duck operated, for example, as a New York area air taxi.
