Hawker Hurricane G-AMAU racer - Academy 1/72nd - second version

This, my second iteration of the civil Hurricane G-AMAU racer in a slightly different scheme, produced the same fun as the first. The Academy kit may have its little accuracy slips, but it's a true delight to build, and -I hope I am not excommunicated from the modeling community for saying this- a bit more pleasant to build than the significantly newer Airfix kit, that in turn offers more detail and to an extent more accuracy. It is of note that while the Academy kit is a MKII, Airfix's is an MKI. Some historical and modeling notes were posted on that first build, and I will remit you to them, so I don't have to repeat here what I wrote there. The first Academy Hurricane racer model can be seen here:

And the building process of this second model can be consulted here, in parallel with the build of another civil Hurricane, G-AFKX, based on the relatively new Airfix kit:

This second model was build for a friend that got star-struck by the first, he will surely contemplate it as he eats his chili in the cold winter nights of Chicago, while his mathematician dog Toby poetically howls to the snowed landscape.

The build companion (G-AFKX) completed model can be seen here:

These two planes were never together, but it makes for a good photo anyway!

  1. They are both beauts, but G-AFKX is a real stunner! very realistic depiction of the polished metal, dull metal, and doped fabric surfaces, Well done! It would be a really involved conversion, but I bet you could do a really nice model of the first Blenheim in its civil markings, using one of the new-tool Airfix kits; I'm betting you have a folder on it!

  2. Thanks! I will have a look, can you believe I don't have a folder on it?
