Hughes H-1 1937 Transcontinental record - CMR 1/72nd resin with Arctic Decals

With the usual Howard Hughes flair for excellence (and press), this plane broke the "transcontinental" record flying from Los Angeles to New Jersey in 1937. This was a long-span modification of the speed record plane of 1935, with some additional changes in the landing gear, instrumentation and on-board equipment. It took Hughes a little less than seven and a half hours to cover the distance.

A step-by-step building article highlighting some minor issues of the kits can be seen here.

The short-span version completed model is here:

As the kit decals shattered -besides being translucent and the wrong hue of yellow- a replacement Arctic Decals set was used. Thanks to them the model could be completed.

My thanks to the kit(s) donor, Andrew Nickeas from England.
