Hughes H-1 1935 speed record breaker (short wing) - CMR 1/72nd resin with Arctic Decals

Ready now to take to the skies to brake the speed record (and ignominiously crash-land "controllably" on a farm) the Hughes H-1 short wing presents to the world its proud demeanor -no doubt inherited from its owner and pilot. In 1937, two years later, it would smash the long-distance record from LA to New Jersey, modified with a wing of larger span, navigation and radio equipment, and other details.

The long-span version is here:

The kit's shattering, too translucent, not accurately-colored decals were replaced with Arctic Decals items, thanks to them the two models could be finally completed.

My thanks again to Andrew Nickeas from Fogland, who gifted me the double kit, a nice addition to a growing collection of racers/record breakers.

Summarizing what was said in the building article, this earlier -almost 20 years old- kit by CMR is somewhat below their usual high standards, and will present the modelers with a few minor challenges. Still, we are grateful it is out there. With care, patience and some experience in the media the double kit can be built into a nice pair of models, and now you have a commercial, accurate decal replacement set.
