Stout Skycar - 1/72nd Avis

If Humpty-Dumpty had a plane...

Another delightful civil subject from Avis, with their usual treatment. It requires some cleaning, one or two touches, and it will build into a nice cute little model.

The step-by-step building post -with one or two hints- can be consulted here:

https://wingsofintent.blogspot.com/2021/06/stout-skycar-avis-172nd-injected-kit.html

The unusual yet elegant lines will provide some variety to any model showcase, and hopefully spark some curiosity and interest for the less explored lands of the vast aviation realm.

Most photos I have (not many, though) of the Skycar show it on a dirt/grass runway, thus the model was  photographed both on tarmac and grass.

Stout, the designer, is well known for his association with the Ford trimotor and other airplanes, and most notably cars, many of them unconventional and thought-provoking.

I would particularly love to build models of his Batwing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stout_Batwing

I have been working on plans for scratching the Batwing and Dragonfly, at some point:

  3. Claudio,
Another little beauty from your workbench! An elegant-looking little spud! Unusual to see such a high aspect ratio wing on a golden age design. With a modern powerplant and avionics, it looks like it would be viable today! BTW, do you have any Custer Aerowings in one of your research folders?

    1. The high aspect ratio wing is indeed what lends the whole the elegance.
I shall try to extend my arms to see if I can become more elegant too.

  4. Claudio,
Now that I think about it, I think the aircraft in my last post was the Custer Channel Wing, not Aerowing! (Not very well-informed when it comes to civil golden age designs, I fear!) Mea ultima culpa!

    1. If it's weird enough, chances are I have a folder, and... I do ;-)
