The “Flying Red Horse” Pegasus can finally take to air. Flown by Charles Tucker in 1946 at the National Air Races, the wingtip tanks lend to it an unusual but elegant appearance. The conversion from the Dora Wings kit was not too demanding and a Draw Decals set was used, accompanied by an aftermarket resin engine -to add a bit of interest- shown by removing a fuselage panel as seen in photos of the original.

The model was built in parallel with a later (1949) version of this plane, “Easter Egg”, that had a more drastic span reduction as it was used for pylon racing.

Beautiful conversion of a beautiful Kingcobra! Your usual impeccable research and modeling. When are we going to see Tony LeVier's famous number 3? You are aware, I presume, that a B-26 Marauder and Lockheed Constellation were entered as pylon racers, IIRC? That would be a project worthy of your skills!
ReplyDeleteTony Le Vier Lightning is in the near future (kit and decals already purchased)!
