ReplyDeleteFor now, Orbáns defeat might be a heavy blow against global fascism, but Magyar is just the lesser of two evils. Please don't forget that Orbán once was very similar to what Magyar is now: a young, seemingly progressive politician that promised a political landslide: he won with 2/3d of Hungary's votes in 1998 and now we all know what became of his reign.
Besides his pro-European and anti-Orbán sentiments, Magyar's political views are shockingly similar to Orbán's.
Yes, Orbán's defeat is good riddance, but it definitely didn't steer Hungary clear of the far-right.

All true. Yet the alternative was much worse. I had a friend who used to say "think the worst and you will be right more times than if you think the best". Still, let's wait and see. The people produced the change against all odds and the political/state apparatus, that's the lesson for me. And for here.
