"Green Hornet" racer, 1947 -converted Academy 1/72nd P-38 Lightning + Draw Decals

The Green Hornet is here! The racer was named after the famous movie serial of 1936, a movie format created to retain a captive audience by the expedient of featuring weekly chapters of adventures ending on a cliff-hanger. The very nice Academy kit was used, complemented by Draw Decals. The step-by-step build can be consulted here:

The build was very pleasant as the Academy kit (re-issued by Italeri) is a jewel. In order to obtain the racer a few changes were needed, like the deletion of military features and the airscoops at the sides of the booms, clipping of the prop blades, the elimination of the supercharger and modification of the area, and other small details.

This model was built in parallel with racer #14 based on the rather poor and severely outdated Hasegawa old kit:

Adding the remarkably beautiful Lockheed Lightning to the growing start line of racer models has been a wish for a long time, now fulfilled.
