Nemeth Parasol "Umbrellaplane" - Avis 1/72nd

What a wonderful thing! Avis releasing such refreshing, out-of-the-ordinary kits. The string of attractive, interesting and unusual planes that are now in Avis' catalog is amazing, and makes the delights of modelers looking for something new and exciting.

I think I have build them all, or almost all. Whilst some of their kits are little kit jewels, others offer a bit more of a challenge; some feel refined and some a teeny tiny rough. This Nemeth Parasol is not as refined as other Avis kits, nonetheless pleasant to build, but there are some unclear points in the instruction sheet. Still, I love that they kitted it, as I had long ago scratched it as you can see following the link below. The kit can be made in to a better model than my 15 years old effort (although I am fond of it, understandably):

The building sequence can be found here, including links to footage of the plane actually flying:

I will continue to support as much as I can these charming and beautiful civil releases by Avis, and I also hope that the high level they reached with some of these kits will be consistent in future offerings -and that the instructions would be better, clearly showing the position of the smaller parts and assemblies. It would be also appreciated if they would place the sprue gates in places on the parts that are easy to clean up and help with removal, and a bonus would also be to have some small photo-etched metal fret to substitute some of the smaller parts that do not do well in "short run" technology.

There is much to applaud, and also room for improvement.

Keep surprising us, Avis, with this absolutely fun creations of the Golden Age.

  1. Another weird but wonderful flying machine to add to your already incredible collection! Looks like the love child of a Rearwin Speedster and an E2C Hawkeye! Can't wait to see what emerges from the Claudio Werks next!

    1. Thanks! "Beauty" may sound as a strange word applied to this plane, but Beauty famously is, after all, in the eye of the beholder. But in this case I wholeheartedly agree ;-)
